Technologies that will change the future world and how it will affect people’s lives
Arthur C. Clarke, a reputed science fiction writer and futurist, quoted: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”. In other words, we can not distinguish sufficiently advanced technologies with higher efficiency from magic. Technology is derived from the sum of science, technology, and the processes which go into the making of any product or service which makes life easy and efficient for people. Technology relates to electronics, computer science, information and communication technology—from a simple hammer to artificial intelligence. Just as there is a huge difference between the world 100 years ago and today’s world, we cannot even imagine what the world will be like 100 years from now. People have travelled to the moon, are dreaming of building a house on the chest of Mars, and can taste all sorts of things at home, thanks to technology. The microcomputer of today is far superior than that day’s mainframe computer!
Below are some of the technologies where I will explain further on how they are going to shape the future world differently.
Human Augmentation
Human Augmentation is the combination of the human body and technology that makes various changes or additions to the human body that augment normal human abilities. It improves and extends human physical and mental performance and sensations which are naturally impossible. This technology is generally developed with the linkage of medical, robotics, or quantum computing. For example, artificial limbs, artificial insemination, neural interference, genome modification, human brain and computer integration, etc.
Human augmentation will do more important work, including improvements in quality of life, increases in average life expectancy, relief from diseases, and overcoming physical disabilities—just making life more enjoyable.
Artificial Intelligence:
Elon Musk, who is the founder of Tesla and Space X, on the other hand, has been very concerned that artificial intelligence will advance so far that one day it will dominate humanity. That is why he also speaks about the development of artificial intelligence in a controlled manner.
But general artificial intelligence will also contribute to making people’s lives easier. Not just that, artificial intelligence can give different innovations for different walks of life, and it also will be added to the healthcare and entertainment world. For example, Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant, ChatGPT, etc.; they can understand any of your questions and answer using your language. They also can work for you in many aspects. Another example could be Sophia, who can move like a human, smile, and change facial expressions.
Autonomous system:
The automated system has come into light to make the human routine life less burdensome. Today’s technologists have already developed driverless cars. Such gadgets have been designed to carry out tasks that are either dangerous or boring to humans. Robots can easily carry heavy things, surgery, perform any hazardous tasks, rescue operations, etc. Indicate a different kind of world with unmanned warplanes, warships, drones, robots, etc.
Genetic engineering:
Genetics Engineering can make important contribution in medicine, agriculture, environment management, etc. Some genetic diseases include cystic fibrosis, sickle cell anemia, Down’s syndrome, genetic diabetes, etc., which are irreversible at present. However, if the development of genetic engineering is possible in future, then it will be made possible to avoid these diseases. Also, the creation of crops with insect resistance and desired characteristics, the creation of rare medicines, etc. It has been applicable because of the development of genetic engineering. Therefore, the development for this technology should be careful both in development and application, considering the pros and cons.
Genetic engineering, after all, is revolutionizing all of human life, providing solutions to some of the most pressing challenges related to health, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.
Nanotechnology:
Nanotechnology can be thought of as dealing with the research and application of devices within materials, which are of roughly 1 to 100 nanometers in size. For these reasons, what the future of nanotechnology has to offer to the world is unimaginable.
But, it is noteworthy that drugs could be delivered to particular cells, early detection of diseases by nanosensors and nanodevices, creation of new tissues or organs, efficiency improvement of solar cells and fuel cells, prevention of environmental pollution, manufacture of small, perfect, and functional devices, pest control, packaging, crop yield enhancement, defense and security fields, and space research.
This is very important to harness its full potential responsibly, in parallel with research, ethical considerations, and regulatory measures.
Quantum Computing:
Quantum computing can resolve many complex problems. Mathematical problems that ordinary computers can solve are done simply with quantum computing. There are also data processing, algorithms, optimization, and cryptography.
Quantum computing has a really prospective future in changing the face of science, technology, and many different industries. The potential to provide answers to complex problems, innovation, and an increase in efficiency with quantum computing is huge. But the proper realization and use of it can only take place when the state-of-the-art level of technological development along with security considerations and regulatory measures happen.
Space Exploration:
From ancient times, people have had all kinds of curiosity, speculation, and imagination about space. But they might never think that one day their offspring will be able to set feet on the moon’s soil. Almost analogous to infinity, the curiosity of people toward space has set them exploring the most.
People have discovered satellites, spaceships, and traveled to different planets and satellites as a result of the research. They were able to solve different mysteries surrounding space.
Some will be able to stay in Mars in future studies, robots sent to the sun, launched space tourism, created high-speed spaceships, created the various laws about the space, politics continue beyond the limits of the earth, and so on.
Virtual and Augmented Reality:
Technologies of virtual and augmented reality will occupy an important place in the future world. For example, sitting in a library in Bangladesh and moving about the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, or traveling in space right from your home—every wish will be possible using VR and AR technology.
They both together would create environments that promise to provide people with very exciting and engaging experiences while remote. For example, it can be applied to the areas of virtual training, entertainment, creating environmental awareness, and modeling and simulation.
As technology has its good side, it has its bad side as well. So we have to be little careful with using the technology. We should be staying away from the negative aspect of the technology.
